Building strong connections among students is an important part of creating a positive and welcoming school community. When students feel that they know their classmates and have a sense of belonging, they are more likely to feel comfortable participating, taking risks, asking for help, and engaging in school activities. Simple activities such as Find Someone Bingo provide an easy and low-pressure way for students to interact with people they may not normally talk to.
I like this activity a lot, because its simple in it setup and give students a chance to meet and engage. I set expectations of asking one person 2 questions at a time, instead of peppering 1 person with 10 questions. It also helps if each student has a colour pen/felt because they have to write the name into the other persons sheet. Again, that way it prevents writing down names they hear, instead of engaging.
By moving around, asking questions, and discovering shared interests or unique experiences, students begin to see one another as individuals rather than simply classmates. Activities like this can help break down social barriers, encourage new friendships, and create a classroom or school environment where students feel seen, included, and connected. This is my favourite activity to do in the beginning of the year with a new class! You can feel free to change or alter some of the words in there.
